Don Bosco Kalvi Solai, through its initiative ‘Butterfly Express’, proudly inaugurates the first Village School Library at Don Bosco Tamil Medium Higher Secondary School, Gedilam, Kallakurichi District, a school that caters to nearly thousand very deserving poor children from the villages around, since 1999. This initiative aims to foster a love for reading among rural students by providing access to quality books and learning resources.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Rev. Fr. John Alexander SDB, Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chennai, who blessed the library, and Mr. Sam Prasad, Managing Director of Eagle Press, Chennai and the Prime Sponsor of this first library, officially inaugurated the facility. The event also witnessed the esteemed presence of the Principal Patron of Butterfly Express, Dr. Jayakumar Reddy, Pediatrician, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, reflecting the collaborative effort of educators, philanthropists, and community leaders in enhancing literacy and education.

As part of this initiative, ‘Butterfly Express’ has set up a well-equipped library featuring 4,000 books, along with tables, chairs, and conducive interiors to create an enriching reading space for students. This project aims to instil a love for reading and provide children with access to quality learning materials, thereby bridging the educational divide in rural communities.

Committed to making a lasting impact, Butterfly Express envisions opening at least two village school libraries every year, ensuring that more students in remote areas have access to knowledge and opportunities. This milestone is part of Butterfly Express, a broader book donation and literacy initiative launched by Don Bosco Kalvi Solai on 7th September 2024, to bring libraries to village schools in Tamil Nadu. With the increasing need for educational resources in rural areas, this library is expected to serve as a beacon of knowledge, inspiring young minds and bridging the literacy gap. Additionally, Don Bosco Kalvi Solai reaches out to over 2000 village school children in Cuddalore, Vellore and Kallakurichy Districts, offering them free training them in Communicative English and Life skills.
