Jesuit priest bags Journalism award named after Salesian writer

Social activist and writer Jesuit Fr Cedric Prakash based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat state, received the Indian Catholic Press Association`s (ICPA) prestigious Fr. Louis Carenno Award on 1st December 2021.
The award was instituted by the ICPA in 2000 with the support of the Mumbai Salesian province in memory of Fr Louis Careno, a Spanish Salesian writer and educationist. Fr. Prakash has played an important role in the civil society and church, both India and abroad through his bold writings against communalism and fundamentalism which are gaining ground globally. Fr Carenno was founder of the premier Indian institution Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, Vellore district in Tamilnadu. Former Rector Major Fr. Pascual Chavez Villanueva, spoke of Fr Carenno as the great missionary of India and of the Philippines in the footsteps of St Francis Xavier. END
