The Retreat-Yercaud Treks & Hikes to Tribal Villages for COVID-19 Relief
News written by: Lawrence Britto Ashok
We shall all be judged with our relationship with the poor, says Pope Francis, and he urges us ``it is time to reach out to those suffering and those in need.`` Heeding his call, The Retreat-Yercaud has reached out to the poorest, the entire week during COVID-19 lockdown.
Food for 100 abandoned elderly and physically challenged is being distributed on alternate days. Further, 200 very deserving families spread across the tribal villages of the hills will receive grocery bag that could sustain them for 4 to 5 days.
50 families out of the shortlisted 200 families as identified by our youth field-volunteers were also helped.. Migrant families have also been identified. With the field support of our young people from SARA Foundation & MARA ARAM, 50 Grocery Bags for people living in different tribal villages, were distributed.
The local administration is greatly supportive. Smt. Ramai-Thesildhar Yercaud Taluka has volunteered to support the delivery of materials with the young people and has made made available her jeep for the purpose.
The target is to reach out to families with children and the elderly with the help of the scholastics, volunteers and particularly the donors without whose support such relief work is impossible. 15 villages have been identified in the Shevaroy Hills around Yercaud that require long travel and tedious trekking to reach out to the people.
