Don Bosco is in news in Karnataka these days for conscientising the society on Child Labour Issues. Media highlighted Don Bosco`s contribution in several parts of the state of Karnataka. On 12 June, World Day against Child Labour, Don Bosco organized elaborate awareness and action campaigns against child labour throughout the State of Karnataka. Public meetings and rallies involving Government Departments, NGOs, School Students, and the public in large numbers were held in Bangalore, Chitradurga, Davangere, Deodurga (Raichur Dt), and Hospet (Bellary Dt). Every speaker used the occasion to denounce child labour and declare commitment to root out child labour from Karnataka. The functions were presided over by leaders of Child Right Clubs in the districts.
On this occassion, Minchu, a collection of songs on Child Rights, and posters and handbills advocating child rights were released. Champions of Child Rights in various districts of Karnataka were honoured during the gatherings. In view of these events, BREADS (Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society) held a press conference on 11 June in Bangalore.
