News written by: Castilino
The third preparatory meet, in view of the forthcoming 7th Salesian Brothers` Congress, was held at Don Bosco Provincial House, New Delhi on July 1 and 2, 2013. Br Angelus Tete, the Chairman, convened the meeting, with the able assistance of Br Edwin Arokiadoss, the Secretary and Br Anthony Tigga, the local coordinator. The two day meeting discussed at length the new modality of the Congress, which has as its theme, `Salesians, be holy`, and the various responsibilities of the sub-commissions. There were 12 Brothers who attended the meet.
Being a fresh attempt, the members spent quality time understanding the new modality followed. Breaking from the conventional style, the 7th Congress aims for a more participative and involved procedure not only on behalf of the Salesian Brothers but the whole Salesian family at large. The objective is to reread history and get a true picture of oneself from the prism of the whole context, including oneself. This is aimed for through a set of simple survey forms for the various groups associated with the Salesians (Priests, Brothers, other religious, youth, lay people and parents as well).
Keeping abreast of the times this survey would be an online venture, saving on time (dispatch and receiving), resources (postage and printing) and nature (paper). The Congress days proper (December 30, 2013 to January 3, 2014) would be spent in serious reflection on the analysis and interpretation of the responses thus collated.
Other relevant and essential aspects related to the Congress, like liturgy, food, accommodation, transportation, reception, sponsorship, too were discussed at length. The commission was grateful to the SPCSA for its financial contribution, through the various provinces, towards the Congress. ``The rest of the required amount would be generated by way of sponsorship,`` added Br Angelus, the Chairman.
The Brothers who attended the meet, also took time to pay homage collectively to late Br Isaac Puthumana who died on March 13 this year and is laid to rest in the Provincial house campus. The hospitality of the confreres of the Provincial house, and that of the neighbouring communities of Okhla technical school, Najafgarh, SPCI house and Ashalayam was cordial and much appreciated. The final meeting in preparation for the Congress is scheduled in the month of November 2013.
