Guwahati Salesians Renew Commitment to Formation and Mission
News reported by: Mukhim Bivan [ING]
The Province of Guwahati (ING) held its Quinquennium 2026, an ongoing formation programme for Salesian priests and brothers within their first five years of priestly ordination and perpetual profession, from September 3 to 6 at the Provincial House, Panbazar. The programme focused on formation, reflection, and fraternity for participants in the early years of ministry.
Animated by Fr George Maliekal, SDB, former Provincial of Shillong, the four-day programme brought together young Salesian priests and brothers for reflection, experience-sharing, spiritual renewal and fraternity in the formative initial years of their ministry.
Addressing the participants at the inaugural programme, Fr Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial, stressed that formation does not end with perpetual profession or priestly ordination but continues as a lifelong journey toward greater authenticity as religious, priests and persons through constant conversion, renewal and growth.
Referring to the Salesian Constitutions, Fr Kuricheal reminded the participants that every Salesian bears personal responsibility for ongoing formation. He urged them to remain “rooted in Christ and committed to the mission,” noting that spiritual growth and deeper union with Christ enable Salesians to serve with greater fruitfulness.
The Provincial concluded his address by invoking the blessing and guidance of Mary, Help of Christians, and wishing the participants fruitful days of fraternity, reflection, and renewal.
The programme also included sessions in which participants shared their experiences of priestly ministry and reflected on the challenges and learnings of their initial years of service.
On the concluding day, Fr Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, SDB, Vice Provincial, presented the Ratio to the newly ordained priests, marking the programme’s final formation-focused session.
