Shelter Don Bosco Youth Shine at Maharashtra State Yoga Championship

News reported by: Fr Sunil Pinto SDB

Three students from Shelter Don Bosco represented the institution at the Maharashtra State Yoga Sports Championship in Pune earlier this month, following their daily Yoga routine at the shelter.

Ritik Chauhan, Shankar Jadhav and Dharmendra Mali competed against participants from across Maharashtra, putting their regular training and preparation to the test. Among them, Shankar Jadhav emerged as the standout performer, securing third place in the 45th State Yoga Competition.

As a result, Shankar’s performance has earned him an opportunity to compete at the national level. He has been selected to represent Maharashtra at the National Yoga Competition 2026, marking a significant milestone in his sporting journey.

Ritik Chauhan and Dharmendra Mali were also commended for earning the opportunity to compete at the state championship. Their participation reflected their dedication and commitment to regular Yoga practice and, at the same time, exposed them to broader competition.

At Shelter Don Bosco, Yoga forms part of the boys’ daily routine, with each day beginning with practice. Beyond physical postures, the discipline is helping the students develop concentration, patience, consistency and self-discipline.

Therefore, the achievements in Pune represent more than a third-place finish or selection for a national competition. They reflect the gradual transformation that comes through regular practice, perseverance and the confidence to take one’s abilities beyond familiar surroundings.

The success of the three students is expected to inspire more young residents at Shelter Don Bosco to take up Yoga not merely as a competitive sport but as a healthy habit and a way of life that contributes to their physical, mental, and personal well-being.
