Salesian Formators Meet in Shillong for Ratio Training
News reported by: Mukhim Bivan [ING]
Salesian formators from across the South Asia Region are attending a three-day Ratio training programme at Don Bosco Provincial House in Shillong from August 9 to 11. The programme focuses on the Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis et Studiorum, the fundamental document guiding Salesian formation.
Fr Silvio Roggia, SDB, General Councillor for Formation, described the Ratio as a document that “captures the mind and the heart of the Salesians.” Fr Ivo Coelho, SDB, said it serves as a guide for young people on their formation journey.
The programme opened with a welcome session and Lectio Divina led by Fr Coelho, followed by an introduction to the training methodology and video presentations on the promulgation of the Ratio by the Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, SDB, and the former Rector Major, Fr Pascual Chávez, SDB.
The sessions focus on the Five Dimensions of formation, lifelong formation, learning through experience and discernment. Participants are also reflecting personally on Chapters 10, 11, and 12, as well as the Appendix on Pastoral Accompaniment.
The final day will feature province-wise discussions on good practices and challenges, the role of the Provincial Formation Delegate and Provincial Formation Commission, and practical strategies for disseminating the Ratio.
The programme aims to promote a common understanding of the Ratio across South Asia and facilitate its effective implementation in Salesian provinces and formation communities.
