North East's Sea Scout Masters Training Course Begins in Guwahati

News reported by: Mukhim Bivan [ING]

The first Basic Sea Scouts Masters Training Course for the North East Region began on Tuesday at Don Bosco School, Panbazar, marking a significant step towards expanding and strengthening the Sea Scout movement across the region.

Organised by the Bharat Scouts and Guides and the Don Bosco District Association, Assam, the week-long programme, running from July 14 to 20, has brought together Scout Masters and leaders from various Don Bosco institutions under the theme, "Learn, Lead, Serve." This course equips participants with the leadership skills, technical competence, and values needed to establish and strengthen Sea Scout units throughout the Northeast.

Inaugurating the programme, Fr. Bivan Mukhim, Vice Provincial, described the training as a historic initiative that would prepare committed Scout leaders to inspire future generations. Reflecting on the Scout motto, "Be Prepared," he said the principle extends beyond a slogan, calling Scouts to be ready in mind, body, and spirit to serve others whenever the need arises.

Emphasising the unique character of Sea Scouting, Fr. Mukhim encouraged participants to appreciate the significance of water and to cultivate teamwork, courage, responsibility, and preparedness. He reminded the trainees that their greatest strength comes from God and urged them to remain faithful to the Scout Promise, allowing prayer and faith to guide their service.

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Solomon Denis SDB, representing the Don Bosco District Association, urged participants to make the most of the intensive training and emerge as capable leaders to establish and strengthen Sea Scout units in their respective institutions.

The training programme includes sessions on the Scout Law and Promise, navigation, signalling, first aid, water safety and rescue, seamanship, rope work, boat handling, sailing, weather studies, camps and expeditions, troop management, uniforms, badges, and an introduction to the Indian Navy and Merchant Navy.

Among those present were Fr. Solomon Denis SDB, Don Bosco District Chief Commissioner; Fr. Nicodim Aind SDB, Provincial Councillor and Don Bosco District Commissioner; Fr. Jayaprakash Anthonimuttu SDB, Economer; Sir A. R. Lazar, Don Bosco District Scout Trainer; along with Scout Masters, Guide Captains, and participants from Don Bosco institutions across the region.
