News reported by: Michael Makri (INS)

The annual meeting of the Provincial Commissions of the Salesian Province of St. John Paul II, Shillong (INS), was held at the Don Bosco Provincial House on Monday to review the past year and set pastoral priorities for 2026–2027.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Provincial Fr. Jeevan Lakra, SDB, emphasised the vital role of the Provincial Commissions in advancing the mission of the Salesian Province. He said the commissions are key instruments of animation, consultation, and collaboration that support the Provincial and his Council in guiding the Province.

Referring to the Salesian Constitutions and Regulations, Fr. Lakra explained that the Provincial is responsible for the animation and governance of the Province, in collaboration with the Provincial Council and various consultative bodies. He noted that the commissions study specific sectors of Salesian life and mission, promote reflection and pastoral initiatives, and offer recommendations that enable informed decision-making for the welfare of the Province.

During the meeting, the commissions reviewed their activities over the past year and identified the key priorities for the coming pastoral year. Discussions focused on strengthening coordination among Salesian institutions, enhancing collaboration across different sectors, and proposing practical initiatives to improve the Province's pastoral mission.

Participants also emphasised the need for each commission to contribute more effectively to the Province's ministries of evangelisation, education, youth ministry, social development, formation, and administration, ensuring a coordinated approach for 2026–2027.
