Salesian Family Day 2026 Celebrated with Unity and Renewed Mission at Odxel
News reported by: Francis Xavier
Salesian Family Day 2026 was celebrated with joy and fervour at the Provincial House, Odxel, on February 8, bringing together 130 members of the Salesian Family in a vibrant expression of communion, faith, and shared mission. Fathers, Sisters, Salesian Cooperators, ADMA members, Past Pupils, young people, and families gathered in a spirit of unity that marked the annual celebration.
The inaugural programme, compered by Mrs. Alison Amaral, began with a colourful procession. Coordinators from various units entered carrying their respective banners, symbolizing collective identity and commitment to the Salesian charism. The procession set a tone of harmony and collaboration among the diverse branches of the Salesian Family.
A prayer service led by Sister Hilda Braganza followed, inviting participants into a reflective and prayerful atmosphere. The ceremonial lamp was then lit by Father Anisio Mota, Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family, along with Sister Hilda Braganza, Provincial FMA Delegate; Ms. Shirley Fernandes, Provincial Coordinator; Mrs. Enid Varela, Provincial ADMA Delegate; and Father Avin Carvalho, Delegate for Past Pupils. The gesture underscored the unity of the different groups within the wider Salesian movement.
Participants were formally welcomed by Mrs. Caroline Cardoz, Coordinator of the Caranzalem Unit and Provincial Secretary, who expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic presence of members from across the province.
The highlight of the day was the Eucharistic Celebration, with Father Anisio Mota as the main celebrant and Father Avin Carvalho and Father Joel D’Souza as concelebrants. In his homily, Father Mota recalled the vision of Saint John Bosco, urging members of the Salesian Family to be “salt and light” in the lives of the young. “By being salt, we are called to mingle with their lives; by being light, we are called to lead them to Jesus,” he said, emphasizing active presence and spiritual guidance in youth ministry.
The Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Panjim, Father Banzelao Teixeira, later presented a reflection on the Strenna 2026 theme, “Do Whatever He Tells You – Believers, Free to Serve.” His address provided theological depth and pastoral direction, encouraging members to renew their commitment to service rooted in faith and freedom.
The celebration concluded with interactive games and moments of sharing that strengthened bonds among participants. Father Mota delivered the vote of thanks and introduced the newly appointed Provincial Council members and office bearers of the Salesian Family, marking a forward-looking conclusion to a day characterized by joy, fellowship, and renewed dedication to mission.
