Camp Uttan 2025 Inspires Young Hearts with Faith and Friendship

News written by: Jittin Mathew SDB

The serene coastal town of Uttan transformed into a vibrant hub of youthful energy and spiritual awakening during “Camp Uttan, 2025.” Organized under the theme “Bosco Ke Saath Zindagi Mast” - Life is awesome with Bosco, this special initiative by Don Bosco Makarpura, Vadodara, brought together 35 spirited young campers from Don Bosco Makarpura, Rosary Church Fatehgunj, and Don Bosco Alirajpur.

Guided by the pastoral leadership of Fr Shaun Dlima and Dn Jittin Mathew, with invaluable support from Fr Evangelo D’Souza, Fr Jeswin Mastan, Alexander Dominic, Vikash Vankar, and the local vocation team, the camp was more than a getaway—it was a transformative experience rooted in the Salesian spirit. Inspired by St. John Bosco’s enduring words, “It is enough that you are young for me to love you very much,” the camp aimed to nurture a deep love for the Church, cultivate leadership, and encourage discernment of God’s call.

A Holistic Approach to Youth Formation

The five-day retreat (October 13 to 17) was a masterful blend of joy and reflection, embodying Don Bosco’s philosophy: “Run, jump, play, but do not sin.” Each day began with prayer and Mass, grounding the campers in faith before launching into a variety of engaging activities. From a thrilling Treasure Hunt Hike and team sports to poolside fun, a visit to the lighthouse, and a pilgrimage to the Marian shrine at Bhatebunder, every moment was designed to uplift and inspire.

Volunteers played a pivotal role in creating an inclusive environment, ensuring that every child felt seen, heard, and valued. The camp’s structure was anchored in the four pillars of the Salesian way—Prayer, Study, Play, and Friendship—offering a balanced and joyful rhythm that encouraged both personal growth and communal bonding.

The true impact of Camp Uttan was echoed in the heartfelt reflections of its young participants. Krut Rathwa shared, “It was my first experience and was awesome. I felt so close to God and my friends.” Anay James added, “I love Don Bosco because they show a fun way to love God and live our life to the fullest. Thank you.” These testimonies reflect the camp’s success in planting seeds of faith, joy, and purpose.

Looking Ahead

As the campers returned home with renewed spirits, lasting friendships, and a deeper connection to their faith, the organizers announced a follow-up camp scheduled for January. This continuation aims to keep the flame of inspiration alive and provide ongoing support for the boys’ spiritual journey.

Camp Uttan 2025 is a shining example of how intentional, faith-filled experiences can empower young people to become compassionate leaders and joyful witnesses in their communities. In the words of Don Bosco, the legacy continues: “Without confidence and love, there can be no true education.”
