Youth-Led Diwali Retreat Inspires Bangalore’s Young Seekers
While most of India lit lamps for Diwali, over a hundred young people gathered at Mount Zion Retreat Centre on the outskirts of Bangalore for a three-day spiritual immersion themed Alive with Christ.
The annual Deepavali retreat, now in its 11th consecutive year, drew college students, high schoolers, and young professionals from Bangalore and beyond.
Salesian alumnus and mentor Fr. Varghese Alangaden said, “What sets this retreat apart is its lay-led spirit. Youth animators—many formed through Crossroads: Spiritual Revival Ministry took charge of every aspect, from praise and worship to testimonies and night adoration. Their vibrant leadership and deep prayer life stirred hearts and renewed faith.”
Former Professor of Philosophy Fr Alangaden, has long championed youth empowerment through spiritual formation.
“My mission,” he often affirms, “is to awaken the divine spark in every young person and help them discover their call to serve.” His retreats emphasize healing, discernment, and joyful discipleship—values clearly echoed in the Mount Zion gathering.
“I was moved by their devotion and joy,” said one of the celebrants who also heard confessions and offered reflections. “This retreat is a beacon for anyone seeking spiritual renewal.”
Held from Saturday to Monday during the Diwali holidays, the retreat continues to grow as a youth-driven movement of grace and transformation—rooted in the Salesian vision, sustained by lay leadership, and animated by the spirit of Crossroads.
