The Umdang Parish in the West Khasi Hills witnessed a spiritually uplifting celebration as Diocesan Priest Father Sylvester Nongsiej of Nongstoin Diocese, fondly known as Fr. Syl, made his promise as a member of the Association of Salesian Co-operators.

Rooted in the Salesian spirit from his formative years, Fr. Syl has long drawn inspiration from the charism of Don Bosco. Educated and accompanied by the Salesians of Don Bosco, his priestly ministry has been marked by a deep love for young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. In every parish he served, he sought ways to uplift underprivileged youth, living out the Salesian mission in action.

His decision to join the Association of Salesian Co-operators was inspired by the dedication of the local group, led by Sr. Celestina Syngkli, FMA. Under the guidance of Fr. Joseph Anikuzhikattil, SDB, Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family of Shillong Province, he prepared spiritually for this new chapter.

The commitment was formalized during a solemn Eucharistic celebration, presided over by Fr. A.L. Joseph, SDB, who highlighted the significance of the occasion in his homily. He urged the faithful to pray for Fr. Syl as he embraced this unique call of service. A short reception followed, reflecting the spirit of Salesian Co-operators—personal sanctification through selfless dedication to the young and the Church.

Fr. Syl’s promise stands as a testimony to a life shaped by Don Bosco’s vision. As a diocesan priest and now a Salesian Co-operator, he continues to walk with the young, carrying forward the Salesian mission with humility, zeal, and love.
