News written by: Selvaraj Stalin sdb

Don Bosco Theological Centre (DBTC) marked a historic day on June 5, with the twin celebrations of the Inauguration of the Academic Year 2025–2026 and the First Convocation of the Institute.

Fr. Don Bosco SDB, Provincial and Moderator of DBTC, presided over the solemn Eucharistic Celebration. During the liturgy, the teaching faculty made a solemn profession of faith and pledged their commitment to impart authentic Christian theology with fidelity and dedication.

The inaugural function, held at Don Bosco Hall, commenced with a prayer song led by Dn. Arockia Dass, followed by the lighting of the lamp. Fr. Pathiaraj Rayappan SDB, Secretary of DBTC, welcomed the gathering and felicitated the Chief Guest, Fr. Don Bosco SDB. Fr. Emmanuel Maddichetty, SDB, Principal of DBTC, presented the annual academic report for the 2024–2025 academic year. Fr. Provincial released the Academic Calendar for the new academic year and presented the first copy to Fr. Pathiaraj. The members of the teaching faculty were then introduced and honoured for their dedication to theological formation.

The First Convocation Ceremony commenced with a stately academic procession comprising graduates, faculty, and administration. Fourteen students received the Baccalaureate in Theology (nine from the Chennai Province, four from the Trichy Province, and one from the Vincentian Congregation). Each graduate was felicitated by Fr. Don Bosco in the presence of the Principal and Registrar. Fr. Don Bosco addressed the students, urging them to pursue theological inquiry with a deep thirst for truth and a commitment to excellence.

Fr. Stalin Dhanraj, professor of theology, delivered the inaugural academic lecture on the theme, “Synodal Structures and Processes in Religious Life.” A formal introduction of the eleven new first-year students followed (four from Chennai, five from Trichy, one from New Delhi, and one from the Vincentian Congregation). Dn. Sajin thanked the gathering, and a hymn in honour of St. John Bosco left the gathering uplifted and spiritually renewed.
