The students of Don Bosco school, Mariapuram, Warangal, in Telangana district, launched a tree plantation campaign on the five acres of land chanting Grow Bosco (‘Bosco’ in Italian refers to wood/forest). The children went on the plantation drive of fruit-bearing saplings with the accompaniment of bugles and drums.

The Don Bosco Mission Complex (DBMC), Mariapuram, Warangal, established in 1992, houses a High School, a Community Centre and a Boys’ Home. Father K. Melchior Raju, the Administrator, passionately prepared five acres of land for planting hundreds of saplings, with the Principal of the Don Bosco School, Father M. Vijaya Prakash leading the pack. Slogans of ‘Grow Bosco’ chanted by the children brought excitement during the drive.

All along the half-a-kilometre stretch and, in the fields, the children held the saplings and, at the count of three, planted the saplings in one go. Addressing students Father Noel Maddhichetty, Director, Don Bosco LiFE Missions Procurator of the Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, sounded the bugle for a Grow Bosco emphasizing the need for climate resilience to overcome global warming through tree plantation.

The Province of Hyderabad envisages planting 100,000 trees in the years ahead to reduce the carbon footprint and ensure a sustainable planet Earth. The Don Bosco Mission Complex (DBMC) is grateful to its partners from Sankt Pölten, Austria, who have been committed to supporting the tree plantation programme.
