Maiden magazine of Don Bosco Umswai released

9th February, 2019 was a historic day for Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Umswai. On this day the first ever school magazine of the school was released by the Chief Guest, Shri Holvis Maslai, headman of Shikdamakha village during an impressive function that also coincided with the Inauguration of the new scholastic year 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Holvis Maslai, headman of Shikdamakha village who deputed Shir D Uphing Maslai MAC who had to rush to Guwahati due the visit of the Prime Minister, expressed his great pleasure at the privilege of releasing the very first magazine of the school. He congratulated the Principal and the editorial team for the initiative and for publishing the historic annual magazine. He had a lot of good words for students who contributed for magazine. The maiden is filled with inspiring stories he said. He also exhorted the students to read the rich content of the magazine and learn something for themselves. Being a past pupil he noted that the school has grown by leaps and bounds and students of the school should be able to compete even with students of city schools. As the headman of the cleanest village in Karbi Anglong districts, he urged students to keep their school compound clean.
Fr. Jonas Toppo, Vice-Principal advised the students to be spend drift, to be careful in using modern means of technology and to keep in mind their primary duties.
Fr. Albert Thyrniang, Principal while presenting the content of ``The DB Umswai`` said that being the first magazines, prominent personalities like the Archbishop of Shillong, Fr. Provincial of Guwahati, FMA Provincials of Shillong and Guwahati, former principals and headmistresses sent messages for the magazine. He also said that the magazine has a `tinge of history`. The magazine took special note of the fact that ``Umswai Mission is a hub of indigenous literature``. Fr. Michael Balawan SDB, the founder of the school started with his pioneering publications on Tiwa and Karbi language. The tradition is being continued he concluded.
Earlier to mark the inauguration of the new scholastic year the ``Lamp of Knowledge`` was lit by the Chief Guest, Fr. Jonas Toppo, Vice-Princpal, Fr. Albert Thyrniang, Principal, Sr. Celina Maslai, Headmistress, one of the teachers and one of the students.
On the occasion students present songs, dances, music and skits to entertain audience. One special attraction was the gymnastic demonstration by a class VI girl, Mary Queen who enthralled the crowed with her `world class` performance.
