Salesian Initiative Trains Over 400 Students in Cutting-Edge Drone Technology
Aiming to ignite scientific curiosity and technological innovation among school students, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Smit, recently organised a large-scale workshop on drone technology, drawing participation from 449 students across seven institutions in the region.
Targeting students in Classes 9 and 10, the workshop introduced attendees to the fundamentals of drone operation and recent developments in the field of drones. The participating schools included Loreto Mary Ward School (Umphyrnai), St Francis De Sales Secondary School (Lad Nongkrem), Ibasara Secondary School (Iewpomtiah), Mount Gerizim Secondary School (Smit), St Peter Secondary School (Smit), and Don Bosco HSS (Smit).
Salesian Brother Dr Albert Longley Dkhar, Principal of Don Bosco HSS, inaugurated the workshop by underscoring the value of such hands-on learning experiences in “sparking curiosity and enthusiasm for learning among young minds.”
Arun Kumar Sarma, Director General of the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), delivered the keynote address, highlighting the emerging importance of drone technology in various sectors and its potential to transform the future workforce. He also emphasized the importance of such educational engagements in preparing students for a rapidly evolving, tech-driven world.
The initiative was not just about technological literacy but also about inspiring future careers in STEM fields. By offering exposure to drone technology, the Salesian institution hoped to plant seeds of innovation and exploration in young learners.
The workshop stands as a model for tech-integrated education, reaffirming the Salesian commitment to empowering youth through forward-thinking educational opportunities.
