Research Scholars` Workshop held at Salesian College

The Department of Geography of Salesian College conducted on 24 January the XIth One Day Research Scholars` Workshop on the theme `Qualitative and Quantitative Perspectives of Research`at its Siliguri Campus. Dr. Sudip Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, University of North Bengal, was the chief guest as well as the resource person for the sessions.
The aim of the workshop was to assemble scholars from different disciplines to share their research theme, methodology, objectives and other such matters. Mr. Bhattacharya, in his main talk spoke about the importance of different steps in research work such as, literature review, hypothesis, and objectives in research. Fr (Prof.) George Thadathil, Principal of the College, drew attention to the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the research connecting them with the philosophy of research, and the regional possibilities of networking the researchers. During the technical sessions the scholars from varied disciplines delivered their presentations on different themes. The themes presented covered a wide range of topics such as: ``Socialization and formation of identity of children of sex workers``, ``Analysis of Adaptive Thermal Comfort in Darjeeling Hill``, ``Women`s political participation in India: Problems and solution``, ``Problem of urbanization in Coochbehar town``, ``Development and communication interface: A case study of Khalpara village in Darjeeling district``, ``Framing of Schedule: focusing the major issues on tribal research`` and ``Impact of MEP missionaries on the tribals of Maria Basti``. After each presentation there was open hall discussion aimed at improving the respective ongoing research works. Ms. Pamela Deb, was the convener of the Workshop.
