Fr Fabio Attard, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, arrived in Bangladesh on October 9 for his maiden visit, marking a milestone in the Salesian mission, which began there 15 years ago. He was accompanied by Fr Thathi Reddy Vijay Bhaskar, SDB, Secretary to the Rector Major.

Fr Attard was received by Fr Sunil Kerketta, SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Kolkata, and Fr Francis Allencherry, SDB, who oversees the Bangladesh Mission. After arriving, he proceeded to Don Bosco Moushair in Dhaka, where he is staying during the visit.

During his first engagements, Fr Attard met Salesian aspirants and pre-novices, as well as members of the Association of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA) and the Salesian Cooperators.

Addressing the aspirants and pre-novices, he emphasised that vocation is fundamentally a response to God's will rather than merely a personal choice. He encouraged them to discern what God was asking of them, remain faithful to their daily responsibilities and draw inspiration from St Dominic Savio, who made holiness the goal of his life.

Fr Attard reminded the young men that holiness develops through faithfulness in ordinary life. He also stressed the importance of personal witness, encouraging them to recognise how their example could inspire other young people to pursue a life of faith and commitment.

Inviting them to deepen their vocational discernment, he urged them to reflect on two fundamental questions: “What is God asking of me?” and how they could make the personal decision to become one with Jesus.
