Khoupum: Nine Hostels together celebrate a Day of Animation, Formation, Prayer, Study and Fellowship

Don Bosco Khoupum organised an Oratory Day on 20 September, bringing together 112 students and nine staff members from nine hostels for a full-day programme of Animation, formation, prayer, study, fellowship, cultural activities and recreation. The initiative highlighted the collaborative educational and pastoral mission of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) in accompanying young people in the Dimapur Province.

The programme was designed to strengthen friendship, unity and community spirit among the hostellers while providing them with opportunities for learning, reflection, cultural expression and recreation. It combined different dimensions of the Salesian approach to youth formation.

The day began with a prayer service conducted by Sr Anna Gangmei, FMA, which created a reflective atmosphere and invited the participants to begin the programme with gratitude and a spirit of togetherness.

A central feature of the programme was a session on “Oratory and Study” conducted by Fr Adani Mathew, SDB. The session focused on the relationship between prayer, disciplined study habits and the responsible use of time. The session connected the traditional Salesian understanding of the oratory with the academic and formative needs of young people.

The cultural programme, held under the theme “Unity and Friendship,” gave the students an opportunity to present their talents, traditions and creativity. The performances brought together students from different backgrounds and emphasised friendship, mutual respect, harmony and unity. The cultural activities helped the young people to appreciate diversity while building a common sense of belonging.

Addressing the gathering, Fr Michael Hingba, Rector, appreciated the initiative of the organisers and encouraged the students to enjoy the occasion responsibly. Quoting Don Bosco, he reminded the participants: “Enjoy yourselves as much as you like, provided you keep away from sin.”

The programme concluded with party games organised by Bro Albert, bringing enthusiasm and recreation to the final part of the day.
