Salesian Missionary Formation Course 2026 Begins in Shillong

The Salesians of Don Bosco, South Asia Region, inaugurated the Missionary Formation Course 2026 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Mawlai, on September 1. The annual programme gathers members of the Salesian Family to renew their missionary commitment and deepen their zeal for service.

Welcoming the participants, Fr Jeevan Lakra, Vice Provincial and Rector, reflected on the Salesian motto Da mihi animas, cetera tolle (“Give me souls, take away the rest”). He described missionaries as the “hands, feet and heart of Christ”. He added that, despite coming from diverse cultural, linguistic and social backgrounds, the participants are united by a common identity and mission—the Salesian mission entrusted to them by Jesus Christ.

Fr John Zosiama, Provincial, highlighted the significance of holding the formation experience in the northeastern states, particularly Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, where Christianity has a strong presence. He expressed the hope that this exposure to the region and its Christian communities would renew the participants’ missionary enthusiasm and strengthen their commitment to missionary life and service.

Speaking on the distinctive character of Salesian missionary work, Fr Genesius Wanniang, Economer, emphasised the uniqueness of being missionaries shaped by the Salesian charism. He said that the Salesian spirit gives the missionary approach a distinctive identity and determines how Salesian missionaries live and serve among the people.

The formation course seeks to provide participants with an opportunity for reflection, renewal and deeper engagement with the missionary dimension of the Salesian vocation.
