Seven New Salesian Cooperators Make Their Promise at Byndihati
News reported by: Michael Makri (INS)
Seven new Salesian Cooperators made their Promise at the Salesian Family gathering at Byndihati Centre under Khliehriat Parish on August 30. The celebration brought together members of the local Cooperators’ community, the Provincial team from Shillong, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and members of religious communities in the locality.
Fr. Dabitlang Daniel Cajee, SDB, Local Delegate for the Salesian Cooperators of Byndihati, presided over the Holy Mass. He welcomed Fr. Joseph Anikuzhikattil Luka, SDB, Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family, and expressed appreciation for his continued efforts to promote the Association of Salesian Cooperators across the Province. Fr. Joseph concelebrated the Eucharist and delivered the homily.
Reflecting on the day’s Scripture readings, Fr. Joseph spoke about the Christian meaning of suffering, describing it as a lesson learned through daily discipleship. He reminded the faithful that following Christ calls for self-denial, taking up the cross and remaining faithful to Him.
He added that the same spirit lies at the heart of the vocation of a Salesian Cooperator, who is called to live the Salesian spirit in the ordinary circumstances of family, work and service to young people.
Addressing the seven candidates, Fr. Joseph emphasised that their Promise should not be regarded as the culmination of their journey, but as the beginning of a lifelong commitment to formation and service. He encouraged them to live the Preventive System through prayer, fraternity and dedication to the young.
The seven candidates then pronounced their Promise as Salesian Cooperators before the assembled Salesian Family and local community.
The Salesian Family of the INS Province welcomed the new Cooperators and expressed joy at their commitment, entrusting their journey of service to the Church, young people and the local community.
