Youth Day at Don Bosco Kuarmunda Inspires Courageous Leadership

News reported by: Fr. Samir Tirkey SDB

Youth Day at Don Bosco, Kuarmunda, brought together young people of the parish and the institution for a day of spiritual reflection, fellowship, and formation centred on the theme “Take Courage! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

The celebration encouraged the youth to face contemporary life with confidence, hope, and steadfast faith in Christ. Fr. Pratap Jose, Deputy Director of the Catholic Education Board of Rourkela, animated the programme and called on the young people to translate their faith into concrete action in daily life.

Fr. Pratap stressed that the call to holiness is not reserved for a select few or confined to moments of prayer, but is lived through ordinary responsibilities and relationships. He also underlined responsible participation in social and political life, urging the youth to contribute positively to society while remaining faithful to Christian values.

Addressing confusion, compromise, and competing values, he encouraged participants to make principled choices even when difficult. He called upon them to emerge as courageous leaders in their families, communities, and wider society. He reminded the youth that Christ’s victory over the world provides lasting strength and hope to those who remain rooted in His teachings.

The celebration also provided opportunities for fellowship, helping young participants strengthen friendships and build a greater sense of community. Cultural presentations of songs, dances, and creative performances allowed the youth to express their talents and celebrate their identity while offering their gifts to God and the community.

The programme was organised with the support and pastoral guidance of the local Salesian and parish community. Fr. Samir Tirkey SDB, Youth In-charge, shaped the activities through his vision and commitment to youth ministry. Fr. Valerian Toppo, Rector, extended institutional support, while Fr. John Henry Tirkey, Parish Priest, ensured the celebration remained connected to the local Church’s pastoral life.
