The Salesian Province of Mary Help of Christians, Guwahati, held a Province-level Mission Poverty Eradication Meeting at the Don Bosco Provincial House on Tuesday.

The meeting brought together Salesians and lay collaborators involved in the Province's poverty eradication programmes to assess progress, strengthen implementation strategies, and promote accountability across institutions and communities.

Fr. Ignatius Gari SDB presented a report on the recent Province Team Meeting and outlined the progress made under the Mission Poverty Eradication initiative. A video presentation outlined the Province's major focus areas, including education, social outreach, livelihood promotion, and other interventions to improve the lives of marginalised communities.

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Gari also explained the documentation procedures required to effectively record, monitor, and evaluate MPE initiatives undertaken across the Province. He stressed that systematic documentation and assessment are essential for ensuring transparency, accountability, and measurable outcomes in the Province's social mission.

The participants also attended a session on Community Audit 2026, animated by Fr. Tony Pellissery SDB, SPCSA in-charge for Mission Poverty Eradication. He emphasised the need for regular community audits to ensure responsible stewardship of resources and to strengthen fidelity to the Salesian mission of serving people experiencing poverty.

Fr. Pellissery informed the participants that the Community Audit 2026 will be conducted across all Salesian communities on November 14 and urged every community to prepare diligently for the exercise. He noted that the audit is intended not merely as an administrative process but as an opportunity for reflection, accountability, and renewed commitment to the Salesian preferential option for the poor.

Concluding the meeting, Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial of the Guwahati Province, reaffirmed the Province's commitment to Mission Poverty Eradication as a concrete expression of the Salesian charism. He urged every Salesian community and institution to make its preferential option for the poor visible through quality education, skill development, livelihood generation, and outreach programmes that restore dignity and hope to people living on the margins of society.
