Salesian Administrators Strengthen Governance and Digital Skills at Province Meet

Administrators from Salesian institutions across the Mumbai Province gathered at the Provincial House, Matunga, on July 29 and 30 for the annual Administrators' Meet, a two-day formation programme aimed at enhancing professional competence in institutional governance, legal compliance, financial management, digital innovation and sustainability.

The programme brought together administrators from various Salesian educational and social institutions for a series of expert-led sessions designed to equip them with practical knowledge required for effective and accountable administration.

The opening day focused on statutory and financial compliance. Chartered Accountant P. M. Nayak of Transformatrix, an organisation serving institutions across India, initiated the programme with an overview of Income Tax regulations. Mr Rushab Tambe explained different categories of taxation and highlighted the importance of maintaining accurate documentation, transparency and systematic financial practices to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

The following session, led by Mr Praneeth Surve, covered Goods and Services Tax (GST), trust regulations, and statutory compliance. He explained the distinction between Income Tax and GST while outlining provisions under Sections 12AA/12AB and 17 relating to tax exemptions for charitable trusts. Practical examples helped participants understand GST applicability and compliance obligations for educational and charitable institutions.

A technology-focused session introduced the Cristo application, presented by Bosco Soft software developer Mr Nevin Dominic. The platform serves as a central digital repository for the province, providing access to information on confreres, provincial circulars, chronicles and other institutional records. The initiative aims to improve digital documentation, accessibility and efficient retrieval of information.

The day's final session featured human resource consultant Mr Dayanand Mangaonkar, who addressed Human Resource Management and India's new labour codes. He stressed the need for fair employment practices, proper grievance procedures, and greater employee awareness of their rights and responsibilities.

The second day opened with an interactive presentation by AI expert Mr Claudius Fernando, who demonstrated how Artificial Intelligence can improve administrative efficiency and decision-making. Through live demonstrations of NotebookLM, he illustrated how AI tools can organise documents, generate summaries and support research, emphasising the importance of effective prompt engineering.

Newly appointed Provincial Economer Fr. Anton D'Souza later outlined the fundamentals of institutional administration, reviewing FCRA regulations, Income Tax returns, statutory deadlines and legal compliance. He reminded participants that sound administration is rooted not only in procedural accuracy but also in responsible stewardship of institutions and communities.

The programme concluded with a session by power solutions expert Mr Shailesh Bodhak, who encouraged administrators to adopt energy-efficient practices and solar power solutions to reduce operational costs and promote environmental sustainability. Quoting the maxim, "A rupee saved is a rupee earned," he urged Salesian institutions to embrace sustainable management for the benefit of both the mission and the environment.
