Don Bosco ITI, AMSAM, Trichy, under the Salesian Province of Tiruchy, hosted the 8th National-Level Auto Tech Fest, MECH XCEL 2K26, from February 23 to 25, bringing together young technical talent from across the country on a common platform of skill, innovation, and industry engagement.
Organised in collaboration with SKIP – Skills for Progress, Bengaluru, and Tata Motors Pvt. Ltd., the three-day fest reaffirmed the Salesian commitment to youth empowerment through skill-based education aligned with contemporary industry standards. The event blended technical competition with professional exposure, reflecting the Salesian vision of holistic formation rooted in Don Bosco’s preventive system.
The inaugural ceremony highlighted the strong partnership between Salesian institutions and the corporate sector. Salesian leaders, training partners, and industry representatives underlined the importance of collaborative ecosystems in preparing youth—particularly from underprivileged backgrounds—for dignified employment and responsible citizenship.
A major highlight of MECH XCEL 2K26 was the inauguration of the IFB Learning Lab by Mrs Manjima Menon, National Head – Training, IFB, Goa. The new facility is designed to strengthen industry-linked, hands-on training and enhance employability by exposing trainees to current technologies and professional practices in the automotive and mechanical sectors.
The fest drew national participation, with 19 institutions represented by 76 students and 20 instructors from states including Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Meghalaya, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh. Beyond competition, the gathering fostered intercultural exchange, peer learning, and a spirit of fraternity characteristic of Salesian educational initiatives.
Participants competed in 13 events covering automotive diagnostics, mechanical precision tasks, theoretical aptitude, and innovation-based challenges. Special events for trainers ensured that educator competence and continuous professional development remained central to the formation process. Industry experts from leading automotive companies served as judges, offering technical evaluation and constructive feedback.
At the valedictory ceremony, Don Bosco Technical Institute, Park Circus, Kolkata, emerged as the overall champion, followed by The Leprosy Mission Vocational Training Centre, Nashik, in second place, and Monfort Academy, Corlim, Goa, in third. Awards and certificates were presented in recognition of technical excellence, teamwork, and professionalism.
