DBITI Kurla Signs Trilateral MoU with German Partners to Advance Global Green Skills Training
News reported by: Amarr Prabhu for BIS Mumbai
In a significant step toward strengthening international vocational collaboration, the Don Bosco Centre for Learning (DBCL), Kurla, hosted the signing of a landmark trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 12, 2026. The agreement brings together the Don Bosco Industrial Training Institute (DBITI), Kurla, Germany’s Handwerkskammer (HWK) Region Stuttgart, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, marking a new chapter in development-oriented skilled migration and industry-aligned training.
The MoU aims to establish a sustainable framework for vocational education that aligns Indian training standards with Germany’s dual system. Anchored in the Indo-German Green Skills Programme (IGGSP), the partnership focuses on preparing Indian youth for emerging roles in green and digitalised sectors, including solar energy and e-mobility—areas of growing demand in the global labour market.
A 16-member German delegation was accorded a traditional welcome at DBCL, complete with a tika ceremony and a spirited lezim performance. Mr Amarr Prabhu, Principal of DBITI, offered an overview of the institute’s mission and outcomes. At the same time, Mr Vinod Noronha, Chairman of the Institute Management Committee, underlined the importance of close industry integration in vocational education.
A key highlight of the visit was an interaction between representatives of the German partners and DBITI students enrolled in German language training. Ms Annette Groschupp and Ms Iris Becker, along with Mr Peter Friedrich, engaged with the learners, reinforcing the programme’s emphasis on holistic preparation—combining technical competence with language proficiency and intercultural readiness for successful integration into the German workforce. Mr Mohamed Badran, Head of Programme, IGGSP at GIZ, commended the collaborative effort and acknowledged the pivotal role played by Mr Ashish Pandit in facilitating the partnership.
The MoU outlines clear priorities, including the adaptation of vocational programmes in technical crafts to meet German requirements, a strong focus on gender responsiveness to enhance women’s participation in technical trades, and comprehensive preparation through bridge courses, German language training up to B1/B2 levels, and intercultural orientation.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Anthony Pinto, Rector and Director of DBCL, said such collaborations empower young technicians with future-ready skills while contributing to shared economic and social goals. As a gesture of goodwill, the visiting delegates were felicitated with traditional shawls.
The agreement, effective until December 2027, sets the stage for sustained institutional cooperation and positions DBITI trainees at the forefront of the global skilled workforce. For DBITI, the partnership gives global expression to its long-held motto—“Learn a Trade, Earn a Living”—by opening fair and structured pathways to international excellence.
