Salesian Brothers’ Day Celebrated at Don Bosco Karunapuram
Don Bosco Karunapuram observed Salesian Brothers’ Day with a meaningful and faith-filled celebration on Monday, January 26, highlighting the significance of brotherhood within the Salesian Congregation. The programme brought together members of the Salesian community for reflection, interaction, and thanksgiving, reaffirming the vocation and mission of Salesian Brothers in the life of the Church.
The celebration featured Vincent Castelino, Economer of the Hyderabad Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco, and Chinnabathuni Gregory, the first Salesian Brother and the first Telugu Salesian of the INH Province, as chief guests. Both brothers animated special sessions for the Salesian Brothers of the community, offering insights rooted in experience and vocation.
In his morning session, Br. Vincent Castelino focused on identity and integrity as the two foundational pillars of both professional and religious life. He invited the participants to reflect on how these values shape the authenticity of a Salesian Brother’s witness in community life and mission. His input was followed by an open interaction, encouraging dialogue, questions, and personal sharing among the participants.
The evening session was animated by Br. Chinnabathuni Gregory, who shared his personal vocation journey as a Salesian Brother. Drawing from his life experiences, he reflected on the meaning, challenges, and joys of living the Salesian Brother’s identity. His sharing offered inspiration and renewed clarity on the distinctive yet complementary vocation of Salesian Brothers within the Congregation.
The day’s celebrations culminated in the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Donthi Reddy Raja, Rector of Don Bosco Karunapuram. In his homily, Fr. Raja reflected on the essence of brotherhood in the Salesian Congregation and emphasized that the Salesian charism is one single vocation lived through two complementary dimensions—that of the priest and the brother—both equally vital to the mission of Don Bosco.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, the community gathered in the refectory to felicitate the two invited Brothers, along with four temporarily professed Salesian Brothers currently pursuing philosophical studies. The celebration concluded with a fraternity meal, marking the day with a spirit of unity, gratitude, and renewed commitment to Salesian brotherhood.
