Salesian Social Forum hosts Two-Day National Convention in Hyderabad
The Salesian Social Forum (SSF), a group of like-minded Salesians, held a two-day National Convention at Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad, on August 10-11. The event, titled "Contextualizing the Dream of Don Bosco: A South Asian Workshop by Salesians in India Today," brought together about 40 Salesians from various Indian provinces to explore ways to renew Don Bosco's vision for the poor.
The convention commenced with a keynote address by Fr. Sebastian Vanathian from the Chennai Province, setting the stage for a diverse range of discussions. These included the relevance and future of Don Bosco’s Vision in Salesian social ministry in India, as well as a paper presentation on contextualizing Don Bosco’s dream in India by Fr. Solomon Kulandairaj (Chennai) and Fr. T.D. John (Hyderabad).
Dr. Yogendra Yadav focused on the challenges facing democracy in post-election India, while Dr. Vijay Gudavarthy from the Central University of Hyderabad offered insights on economic and social policy. Brother Varghese Theckanath SG (Montfort) challenged participants to rethink religious life in today’s Indian context.
The convention concluded with a powerful call to action. Committees were formed to continue the initiatives discussed, with Fr. Amala Vinod, Fr. Albert Yesudoss, Fr. Maliekal Jose, Fr. Elambasseril Saji, and Fr. Felix Arulnathan stepping up as contact persons for specific tasks. This commitment ensures that the momentum of the convention will continue to drive positive change.
Fr. Francis Bosco, the National Coordinator of SSF, and Fr. Thumma Prathap, the Local Coordinator, meticulously planned and organized the event, making it a significant step toward realizing Don Bosco's dream in contemporary India.
