Born on 15 October 1944, at Bellore in South Canara District in Mangalore diocese, Dennis joined Rinaldi Juniorate (SIGA) as an aspirant when he was 36 of age. He did his novitiate at Nazarth Bhavan, Siliguri, in May 1983 and professed as a Salesian Brother on 24 May 1984 at Siliguri. He made his perpetual profession on 4 June 1991 at Don Bosco, Tirupattur. After completing his High School studies at Padua High School in Mangalore in March 1963, he did a one-year course in Electrical Engineering and then a three-year course in Lift Erection Engineering with Johnson Lifts Pvt Ltd. He then worked with Johnson Lifts for about 10 years. In 1980, he resigned from his job, and decided to become a Salesian. In 1988-90, he did his Post-Novitiate studies at Vidyaniketan, Kalyani, West Bengal.
