The DBICA PSA Festival held at DBICA Theatre on 7th September 2013was a grand show with more than 200 participants from several parts of Tamil Nadu. This is an annual event intended to visually create social awareness and encourage young media entrepreneurs to inculcate social ethics while bringing out the best in their creations. Veteran film makers, editors and directors from the Media grazed the occasion. Ms. Aalathy compeered the occasion with full gusto,explaining the salient features of the 9th edition of PSA to the participants and the chief guests. The program was commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp a significant act to dispel darkness and illuminate the occasion. Fr. Harris, the Director of Dbica and the PSA festivalhighlighted in his welcome note saying how the film festivals like PSA,short in duration but can create an enormous amount of social consciousness as that of a mustard seed and leaven in the yeast. He also welcomed the chief guests Mr. Atlee, the current and most promising director for his ``Raja Rani`` and Mr.Balaj, the film director of ``Katrathu Kalavu`` for having obliged our invitation despite their heavy schedule. After the formal introductions the show began - 55 PSAs came up for screening and after each PSA the participants who were present came forward and shared their opinion to create such PSAs. The Chief invitees were all praises for DBICA`s efforts in promoting young talent and wished it well in its dream of creating awareness about mass media and awareness through mass media. Mr. Atlee Kumar added flavor to the occasion with this sincere critique on film festivals and continued how short films like PSA can still be an impetus to exhume one`s potency in a nutshell.He also insisted that good things will pop only we take risks and the budding filmmakers should brush aside inferiority complex and keep going towards attaching one`s goal. He also encouraged the participants and commended on their creations. Mrs.Balajiunderlined PSAs are most important festival where the younger generation are exposed to social values and social responsibility. He urged the budding filmmakers the need for creativity and imagination, factors that can drive home the message conveyed, forcefully. Fr. David SDB appreciated the dedication of DBICA for organizing the PSA video contest to promote great values to the younger generation. The first prize was awarded for the PSA ``UdhunaUdhum``byVickramraj. T, the second prize was awarded for ``Sexual Harassment``byRizwan Mohamedand the third prize for ``Brighten up Lives`` by Annapoorani. All other participants received their participation certificates from the Chief guests. It was indeed an event to be cherished in the history of DBICA festivals. Some of the prominent themes on which the PSAs were made were: no smoking, wearing helmet, road safety, pollution, female infanticide, health & hygiene, organ donation, women rights, child rights, cleanliness etc. The occasion was concluded with a short promotion to the forth coming film festivals followed by the National Anthem.
