ICSFF, Chennai`s most celebrated international short film festival took off on a colorful start on 8th November 2013, at Don Bosco Auditorium Egmore, Chennai. This 6th edition had a variety of dignitaries gracing the event, Mr. Sugata Roy, Communication Specialist - UNICEF, Ms. Aruna Rathnam - UNICEF, Mr. U. Sudhir Lodha, Member - State Minority Commission, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Sidharth Lodha, Filmmaker Mr. GNR Kumaravelan, Miss. Yazhini, Airtel Super singer, Filmmaker Massimiliano Schiliro - Italy, Ms. Shilpa, Head HR - MAD Chennai, Rev. Fr. John Alexander, the Rector & Correspondent of Don Bosco Egmore, Rev. Fr. Sagayaraj - Principal of Don Bosco College of Art & Design. Nearly 1540 children from more than 24 schools participated in this one day short film festival. The festival began with a prayerful note, invoking healing for the world to make it a better place, through Michael Jackon`s `Heal the World`, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp. Each of the chief guests had a spark, with which they ignited the spirits of the children... offering wonderful messages that enthused them. Mr. Sugata Roy, the Communication specialist from UNICEF highlighted the efforts they were into, to safeguard the rights of children all over the world. Mr. Sudhir Lodha, Member - State Minority Commission, Govt of Tamil Nadu, cheered the children with a beautiful story and encouraged them to be creative and revere their teachers. Ms. Aruna Rathnam was again in her enthusiastic self, encouraging children to be agents of social change. Mr. GNR Kumaravelan affirmed that children need to learn and express themselves towards a responsible future. The filmmaker Massimiliano Schiliro from Italy,also encouraged the children to lovetheir families, their friends, the society and the nature and that was the best way to celebrate childhood. Ms. Shilpa, the Head HR of MAD - Make a Difference also motivated the children to be flexible and creative and make the best use of the opportunities that come their way. Miss. Yazhini, Airtel Super Singer mesmerized the crowd with her singing `Who is the hero?`. Out of the 72 short films that came in for the festival from USA, Japan, Poland, Russia, India, France, Australia, Switzerland and Netherlands, 18 international short films were screened for this one day festival. These short films portray children`s daily life, their world of dreams and aspirations, their humanity and strength of character, their struggles and challenges. The day`s proceedings were awesome with the enthusiastic response from children, talking, sharing and expressing their feelings and conveying that they too were interested concerned and committed to protecting and nurturing childhood. This children`s festival was sponsored and patronized by UNICEF Chennai and was done in joint collaboration with MAD - Make a difference and DBCAD - Don Bosco College of Art & Design, Chennai, together with the New Indian Express as it social partner. ICSFF will undoubtedly remain a memorable day for the participants who have savoured these inspiring visual images and messages that can touch, entertain, enlighten, empower and transform the minds of the children. ICSFF continues to be truly a children`s festival, providing a unique channel for children to come together to relax, discuss, interact and to gather awareness and inspiration on themes related to Children and Childhood.
