Don Bosco School Leaders Meet at Chitradurga, Karnataka

The School Education Commission of the province of Bangalore organized Schools Leaders` Meet for the Don Bosco Schools run by the province in Karnataka. It was held at Don Bosco, Chitradurga, on 29 and 30 June 2013. The participants of the event, about 112 students, were the newly elected representatives of students from all the Don Bosco schools.
As the participants came in, the host Salesian community of Chitradurga welcomed and made them feel at home. The meet got off to a colourful start with the commencement of a well-prepared inaugural function. Mr. Sadashiva Sultan Puri, District civil judge and chief guest of the function, in his inaugural address stressed that that leaders create leaders not followers. Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Rector and Manager of Don Bosco, Chitradurga, welcomed the participants. Fr. Manuel Puthiyaparambil, Chief Organizer, welcomed all the other guests and introduced the resource persons.
After the ice breakers and instructions by the chief organizer, the morning session on group dynamics was conducted by Fr. Jude Anand SDB, Principal, DB School, Chitradurga. The next two sessions on ``Leader as a Communicator`` and ``Motivation to Lead`` were animated by Fr (Dr.) C.P. Varghese SDB. Every session was interspersed with action songs and activities that kept the students awake and agile till the very end. All the participants - the old and the young, staff and students - managed to climb the Chitradurga fort. They also had the rare opportunity of witnessing the acrobatic skills of Kotiraja (Monkey King) at the fort. Mr. Murugesh, the guide, described the importance of every single monument at the fort. During the family gathering after dinner, the participants and the staff sang songs, danced and played various games to their hearts` content.
The following day commenced with a prayer session animated by Fr. Maria Vincent SDB, Principal, DB PU College, Chitradurga. The sessions conducted by Fr. Pulicode Sebastian (Regi) SDB and Fr. Anand were on the Profile of a Leader, Leadership Styles, Qualities of a Leader, and the Challenges of a Leader. During the last session, with the involvement of all present, good action plans were drawn up for each school. After the valedictory function at 4.15 pm, all the school leaders dispersed with great satisfaction of having participated in a very fruitful programme.
