Don Bosco Parish Faithful on Lenten Pilgrimage to Tuticorin and Kanyakumari
News reported by: Fr Arokia Selvakumar SDB
In the spirit of the Lenten season, around 300 faithful from Don Bosco Parish, Amsam, in the Archdiocese of Trichy, undertook a two-day pilgrimage to the historic Christian shrines of Tuticorin and Kanyakumari. Travelling together in six buses, the pilgrims transformed the journey into a meaningful experience of prayer, fellowship, and spiritual renewal.
The pilgrimage began on the night of 6 March 2026, when the faithful gathered at Amsam and set out together for Tuticorin. The first day was devoted to visiting prominent churches and Marian shrines in the region. Pilgrims participated in the celebration of the Eucharist, communal prayers, and devotional moments, creating an atmosphere of deep faith and reflection. The carefully organised itinerary allowed the participants to combine visits to sacred places with moments of prayer and community bonding.
On the second day, the pilgrims continued their journey to Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India. Along the route, they visited churches and other sacred sites, spending time in prayer and reflection. The programme included reciting the Rosary, celebrating Holy Mass, praying the Way of the Cross, and other devotional practices. These spiritual activities helped the faithful deepen their Lenten experience while strengthening the sense of unity within the parish community.
The pilgrimage was thoughtfully coordinated to ensure smooth travel arrangements and shared meals, enabling the participants to focus on the spiritual dimension of the journey. For many of the pilgrims, the two-day experience offered a welcome opportunity to step away from the routines of daily life and rediscover the joy of prayer and communal faith during the Lenten season.
Participants described the pilgrimage as a grace-filled journey of faith and fraternity that strengthened both their personal relationship with God and their bonds within the parish community.
The faithful returned to Amsam, Trichy, with renewed faith, grateful hearts, and cherished memories of a Lenten pilgrimage that deepened their spiritual journey together.
