Don Bosco Savedi Hosts Spiritual Retreat for Students
News written by: Ms Vrushali Jadhav
To foster the spiritual growth and faith formation of its students, Don Bosco English Medium School, Savedi Ahilyanagar, organised a one-day retreat for Catholic students on 14 December at Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra, Kedgaon.
The retreat was held under the leadership of Principal Fr. Richard Burkhao, with the active support of both teaching and non-teaching staff. The programme began with an opening session led by Fr. George D’Abreo, who reflected on the theme “How God Created Us in His Own Image and the Importance of Self-Love.” His talk emphasised the inherent dignity and worth of every individual in God's eyes, encouraging students to recognise and value themselves as God’s creation.
The second session was conducted by Ms Vrushali Jadhav, who spoke on “Jesus – A Better Friend.” Drawing on scriptural passages, she guided students to cultivate a deeper, more personal friendship with God. The session included time for individual reflection, during which students were invited to examine their lives and their present relationship with God.
The third session was led by Fr. Richard Burkhao on “The Basic Study of Different Books of the Bible and the Origin of the Bible.” He offered foundational insights into the structure and formation of the Scriptures, highlighting the importance of regular Bible reading in daily life. The session helped students gain a clearer and more meaningful understanding of the Word of God.
Following lunch, teachers organised a creative spiritual activity in which students read, enacted, and presented Gospel parables. Several groups creatively adapted the parables to contemporary situations, making the message relevant to everyday life. This was followed by a brief reflection by Fr. Burkhao on the significance of the Sacrament of Confession. After adequate preparation, students and teachers participated in confessions, facilitated by Fr. Bento D’Souza, Fr. Clarence Martis, and Fr. Richard Burkhao. The retreat concluded with a solemn Eucharistic celebration.
The retreat provided a deeply enriching spiritual experience, strengthening students’ faith and helping them appreciate their intrinsic value before God. Angel Dhone, a Class 7 student, described the retreat as the most beautiful experience of her life, while Pritesh Bhingardive, a Class 9 student, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the retreat deepened his understanding of the Bible and enriched his overall spiritual journey.
