Shillong Province felicitates New Priests
The newly ordained Salesian priests (9 for Shillong Province and 1 for Sri Lanka) were felicitated on February 18 at Sonapahar Parish. The celebration of the New Priests' Day commenced with the Holy Eucharist presided over by the newly ordained Father Sawlus Kharpan and the homily delivered by Father Synsharsuklang Kharsyntiew, expressing gratitude for the prayers of the faithful and calling on them for continued support.
In his homily, Father Synsharsuklang Kharsyntiew drew inspiration from the day's readings, addressing themes of sin, temptation, and the transformative power of Baptism, which grants the grace to sanctify and strive for holiness. The Holy Mass was attended by thousands of faithful from Sonapahar Parish, with Father Paul O Lyngkot, the Provincial, Father John Zosiama, the Vice Provincial, and Father Sebastian Tirkey, the Parish Priest of Sonapahar and 40 Salesian priests. The gathering also had Salesian brothers, clerics, FMA sisters, and other members of the Salesian family.
Following the Holy Mass, a brief felicitation program unfolded, featuring songs, dances, and skits dedicated to honouring the new priests. In the concluding remarks, Father Provincial expressed gratitude to God for the gift of priesthood and, specifically, for the ten new priests in the province. He encouraged the new priests to remain dedicated and committed to their vocation while also seeking the ongoing support of the faithful through prayers.
