Kolkata Province Launches Provincial Chapter 2024: Setting the stage for reflection and action plan
The Provincial Chapter of the Province of St. John Bosco Kolkata, with the theme “Salesians are called to be passionate about Jesus Christ and dedicated to young people”, commenced on April 8th with a day of recollection animated by Fr. James Mathew in the NITIKA chapel.
The Archbishop of Kolkata, Rt. Rev. Thomas D’souza, presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebration and invited the Salesians to be good listeners, to focus on ongoing formation, and to update Salesian pedagogy in the digital world. Later, the Archbishop addressed the chapter members, expressing his happiness to be present for the occasion of the PC24. He thanked the Salesians for the pastoral help extended to the dioceses of West Bengal, Sikkim, Nepal, and Bangladesh, and for empowering the young people under the care of the Salesians. He said, “Your dedication to the young people is directly proportionate to your passion for Jesus Christ.”
The presence of God was invoked with the lighting of the lamp, a hymn to the Holy Spirit, a prayer for the chapter, and a prayer dance by the Nitika DB SERVE children. Highlighting the significance and importance of the provincial chapter, Br. Malasam Tisu Ignatius from Bangladesh read Articles 170-171 of the constitution of the Society of St. Francis De Sales. The messages of Rev. Fr. Biju Michael, the regional superior, and other Salesian family members, superiors, and leaders were read to the august gathering.
The moderator, Rev. Fr. George Chempakathinal, welcomed all the chapter members and declared the Provincial Chapter open.
