Don Bosco Kurla Hosts Maharashtra State Skill Competition 2021

Don Bosco Kurla hosted the Maharashtra State Skill Competition 2021 from September 3 to 5, 2021. The competitions were held to select candidates from India for the 46th WorldSkills Competition from October 12-17, 2022, in Shanghai, China. The event has provided a platform for the youth of the state to showcase their skills. Nearly 20,090 youngsters in the age group of 17-25 years registered for the event.
The skill competition planned in three rounds began from level-1 at the district level on August 17 at various ITIs and training centres across the districts. Post the second-level round held on August 23-24, 263 participants qualified for the state-level competition and underwent orientation and skill training as per the international standards to compete at the state level final.
The state-level competition was inaugurated on September 3 by the Cabinet Minister Government of Maharashtra, Nawab Malik - Minority Development, Aukaf and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. Speaking at the event, the cabinet minister encouraged and suggested improvements to help Maharashtra participants contribute at the National and International levels.
A host of dignitaries like Manisha Verma I.A.S., Joint Secretary, Directorate of Vocational Education & Training Maharashtra, Dipendar Kushwa I.A.S., CEO, Maharashtra State Skill Development Society, Rohan Patil I.E.S., Asst. Director of Regional Directorate of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Mumbai - DGT New Delhi, Jaikant Singh, Senior Head, WorldSkills India, Digambar Dalvi, Director Department of Vocational Education and Training and Dr Suvarna, Joint Secretary were present. The dignitaries went around the workshop and labs and interacting and motivating the participants.
Nearly 100 winners of the Maharashtra state skill competition will get a chance to participate in the IndiaSkills 2021 regional competition in September-October and later at the IndiaSkills National Competition in December 2021.
Father McEnroe Lopes thanked the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and the Cabinet Minister for choosing Don Bosco Kurla as the venue. He described the history of Don Bosco`s apostolate for the marginalized youth that began with technical education. He further explained the role of the Salesian Congregation in India in giving technical education and livelihood to the underprivileged youth.
