Over a hundred members of the Salesian family came together in Nitika at Kolkata on 23 January, 2017 to reflect together on the Strenna of the year and to find pathways to actualize it in the various Salesian family settings.
Father Nirmol Gomes, the provincial of the Salesian Province of Kolkata welcomed the participants and introduced them to the dynamics of the day. The programme began with the presentation of the Strenna by the provincial.
The Strenna is very meaningful for it is in tune with the theme of the 15th ordinary general assembly of the synod of bishops to be held this year and the theme chosen is ``Young People, the faith and vocational discernment`` said the provincial as he began the presentation of the Strenna.
Twenty-two Salesians were present at the gathering. ``The presence and active participation of many Salesian co-operators and past pupils were very inspiring and vital to the gathering`` commented Sr Nycy Joseph MSMHC.
In presenting the salient points of the Rector Major`s letter, the provincial picked up some challenging thoughts on the art of listening and the meaning of accompaniment. Before winding up the initial session he highlighted the 8 proposals made by the Rector Major and commended briefly on them.
The presentation ended with watching together as family a short video clipping on the presentation of the Strenna by the Rector Major.
In the feed back session the groups had number of valid proposals to create better listening and accompanying of the young. However, every group repeatedly mentioned that mentors today need to be a role models or a high level of credibility is essentially needed to accompany the young.
``We spent the most wonderful day with full of emotion, overwhelming feelings and a sense of pride of being part of the great family. It was indeed a great pleasure to see the fathers, brothers, sisters in person; it was a magical experience to see Don Bosco in them. Viva Don Bosco. Long live Don Bosco``, was the response of Mr Wasim Baksh, an alumnus of Don Bosco Park Circus.
