The Quinquennium Meet for young Salesians, held from September 20 to 26 at the Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC) in Koregaon Park, Pune, brought together 13 participants for a week of spiritual growth, fraternity, and renewal. The gathering, designed for Salesians in their first years of priestly life, proved to be a formative and enriching experience.

The theme of the five-day session, “Psycho-Sexual Integration”, addressed a vital dimension of religious life. The sessions were animated by Fr. Johny Nedungatt, SDB, of the Kolkata Province, who drew from his rich pastoral experience and personal journey. Through interactive inputs, personal anecdotes, and reflective discussions, Fr. Nedungatt guided the participants in exploring self-awareness, emotional maturity, and inner freedom as essential to living a healthy, integrated celibate life.

A highlight of the week was the celebration of Fr. Nedungatt’s Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession and Ruby Jubilee of Priestly Ordination. In his homily at the Jubilee Mass, he thanked God for His faithfulness. He encouraged the young confreres to remain rooted in their vocation, living with integrity and openness to God’s miracles through humble service.

Adding further depth to the meeting, Fr. Robert Pen, SDB, Vice Provincial of the Mumbai Province, led reflections on “Conversation in the Spirit.” He invited participants to engage in silent prayer and share their learnings, challenges, and resolutions. Fr. Pen also accompanied the participants throughout the week, offering encouragement and guidance.

Former Mumbai Provincial, Fr. Savio Silveira, SDB, addressed the young confreres with inspiring insights. He emphasized that the Quinquennium years are foundational for building convictions that sustain lifelong commitment. Encouraging them to be active contributors rather than passive receivers, he emphasized the importance of initiative, creativity, and vision, all of which are rooted in Don Bosco’s example.

The daily rhythm of Eucharistic celebrations, prayer, input sessions, Good Night talks, and fraternal fellowship fostered a spiritually rich environment. Many participants expressed that the Quinquennium Meet deepened their awareness of both personal and professional dimensions of consecrated life.

For the young Salesians, the week was not only a moment of reflection but also a grace-filled encounter that strengthened their resolve to live their vocation with maturity, authenticity, and joy.
