In a spirited effort to promote care for creation, the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) Ahmednagar organized a Tree Plantation Drive at Mathni village, bringing together over 85 enthusiastic youth from three parishes – St. Anne’s, St. John’s Bhingar, and St. John Bosco Parish Savedi.

The young participants planted more than 200 saplings of Mango, Amla, and Tamarind, sowing the seeds of hope for a sustainable future. The initiative was supported by Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), which has been actively involved in social and environmental development in the region.

Fr. Stanny Ferreira, a pioneering missionary from Chhota Udepur, graced the occasion and urged the youth to remain committed to eco-initiatives. Gratitude was expressed to Mr. Chatru Pardeshi, who generously donated the land for the plantation.

Several Salesians, including Frs. McEnroe, Richard Burkhao (Youth Coordinator, Nagar), Mavron, Vishwas, Nathaniel, and George were present to encourage the youth. Fr. George (BGVK) delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective effort of the young participants, the guidance of the priests, and the generosity of the land donor.

Quoting Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, the organizers highlighted the role of young people in addressing the environmental crisis. “This initiative is not just about planting trees; it is about planting values of care, responsibility, and faith,” said Fr. Burkhao. “Every sapling is a symbol of our love for creation and our hope for future generations.”

The tree plantation drive, rooted in Don Bosco’s vision of educating youth to be responsible citizens and stewards of creation, left a deep impression on the participants.
