In a solemn ceremony, 26 young novices of the Salesian Shillong (INS) and Guwahati (ING) Provinces professed their first religious vows at the Sunnyside Novitiate on the feast of Mary Help of Christians. Fr John Zosiama, the Provincial, in the presence of Fr. Genesius Wanniang - the Provincial Economer, Fr. Sebastian from the Province of Guwahati, Fr. Paul O Lyngkot – the Novice Master and many other priests, brothers, Sisters, family members, and well-wishers, officiated the ceremony.

Fr. Provincial emphasized that the profession marks not an end but a beginning. “This is not a celebration of victory but of commitment—the start of a lifelong journey to follow Christ in the footsteps of Don Bosco,” he said.

Acknowledging the crucial role of families in nurturing vocations, Fr. Provincial thanked the parents and relatives present. “Your faith and generosity have borne fruit today. These young men would not be here without your love and example,” he said. He also appreciated the formators—priests and brothers—who accompanied the novices through their formation years, shaping their spiritual and personal growth.
Drawing inspiration from Don Bosco’s devotion to Mary Help of Christians, the celebrant urged the newly professed to seek her guidance in moments of doubt. “Like Don Bosco, who prayed before Mary Immaculate to discern his vocation, you too must turn to her. Those who pray the Rosary daily will find strength to persevere,” he said.

He reminded them that their vows were not for personal glory but for their mission—to serve the young, the poor, and the marginalized in the spirit of Don Bosco. “Your studies and formation are not for degrees but for discipleship. Always stay close to Jesus in the Eucharist and Scripture, for you can do nothing without Him.”
