28 Novices Make First Profession at Don Bosco Sunnyside, Shillong
The Don Bosco Sunnyside Novitiate witnessed the first profession of 28 Salesian novices on May 24th. Fr. Provincial John Zosiama presided over the rites and received the vows of the novices. The event was attended by several priests, clergy, sisters, religious, as well as the proud parents and relatives of the newly initiated Salesians.
In his homily preceding the reception of vows, Fr. Provincial John Zosiama commended the courage exhibited by the young novices in saying yes to the divine call. He expounded upon the significance of the three vows—poverty, chastity, and obedience—as integral components of embracing the path of Jesus Christ. Expressing gratitude towards those instrumental in nurturing the formation of the novices, Fr. Provincial extended special thanks to the parents of the new Salesians.
"Religious profession is a loving embrace of the call of the Lord," emphasized Fr. Zosiama. Drawing parallels with the Solemnity of the Feast of Mary Help of Christians, he urged the newly professed Salesians to emulate Mother Mary's unwavering dedication to discerning and following the will of God above all else. "Our Blessed Mother will always be there to support you, just as we, as Salesians, are here to support you," he reassured the novices.
Following his inspiring address, the rite of the first profession unfolded with solemnity and reverence. Fr. Provincial John Zosiama, who symbolically assumed the role of the Rector Major, received the novices as members of the congregation.
The ceremony, imbued with spiritual fervor and profound significance, marked a significant milestone for the young Salesians as they wholeheartedly dedicated themselves to the service of God and humanity. As they embark on this noble vocation, guided by the teachings of Don Bosco and the enduring legacy of Mary Help of Christians, they carry with them the fervent prayers and unwavering support of their mentors, families, and the entire Salesian community.
