Women`s Day at Chitradurga

Through Women`s Day celebrations, CHITHRA (Centre for Human Intervention and Training in Holistic Rural Action) the social development wing of Don Bosco, Chitradurga reached out to 7000 women in 80 villages and 15 slums of Chitradurga district.
As part of the empowerment of the poor and the marginalized especially the women, CHITHRA (Centre for Human Intervention and Training in Holistic Rural Action) the social development wing of Don Bosco, Chitradurga organized the Women`s Day in a meaningful manner on March 8, 11, 12, 14, 18 and 22, 2009 in Community Managed Resource Centres. Each Community Managed Resource Centre covers more than 10 to 15 villages. In order to involve Village Leaders, Elected Members and other Community Based Organisations and to enable as many women as possible to participate, the celebrations took place in six different Community Managed Resource Centres of CHITHRA - DON BOSCO which has 5 to 10 Federations and around 50 to 80 Self Help Groups. It was celebrated as one of the main village activity. There was participation from representatives of Self Help Groups and Federations. This year, our focus was on Domestic Violence, Child Rights and Right to Information Act. Active participation in the Election Process, Health and Empowerment of women was also stressed in the Women`s Day programme. In all the celebrations other Community Based Organizatiosn like Youth Groups, Lions Clubs, Lawyers Association and Farmers Club also collaborated. Through these celebrations in the six Community Managed Resource Centres 7000 women in 80 villages and 15 slums of Chitradurga district were reached out to. We appreciate and congratulate the leaders of the Self Help Groups, Federations the staff and management of CHITHRA in this wide reach out initiative.
