Over 500 children and young people between the age of 7 to 17 came together from eight Sunday oratories animated by the novices of the province of Kolkata on Christmas Day to help us celebrate Christmas 2007 with a difference. Our novices, twenty of them, conduct eight Sunday oratories in the vicinity of the novitiate house in the outskirts of the city of Siliguri. These children belong to religions other than Christianity. Most come from economically poor background, having less access to educational opportunities. They were all invited to our campus on Christmas day to spend about three hours with us playing various types of games which gave them opportunities to win prizes. Days spent in planning, preparing and executing the Christmas mela helped to celebrate Christmas with a difference. Our energy was very focused to provide a healthy and wholesome occasion for the children to be happy and experience the joy of Christmas. At the end of the day, though we were very tired, we felt this was truly a different way of celebrating Christmas.
