Students of Theology animate children on fostering holistic growth

- John Kennedy

In a vibrant two-day animation program held at Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Don Bosco School of Excellence (CBSE) in Egmore, students experienced holistic growth beyond spiritual formation. Organized by students and professors from Don Bosco Theological Centre (DBTC), under the leadership of Fr. Xavier Packiam, Rector, and Fr. Mathias Emareddy, Principal of Don Bosco Matriculation, and Fr. Robert Antony, Principal of Don Bosco School of Excellence, the program impacted over 2,000 students, both Catholic and non-Catholic, from Grades 6 to 12.

On August 22, at Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, 32 brothers engaged 1,387 students, while on August 29, 26 brothers animated 856 students at Don Bosco School of Excellence. The program combined education, moral values, and a plethora of fun-filled activities, offering a well-rounded and entertaining experience. Moral science students participated in interactive sessions reinforcing values such as respect, honesty, justice, and solidarity, fostering personal growth in a relaxed environment. Party games and action songs made learning enjoyable, helping students grasp these concepts effectively.

The focus for the 579 Catholic students was on spiritual development, mainly through preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The day included instructions on repentance and God’s forgiveness, followed by adoration and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, enriching their faith journey. Samson Rajkumar, a theology student, said, "We emphasized the importance of repentance and God’s forgiveness, helping them to understand the deeper meaning of the sacrament." These sessions allowed the students to reflect deeply on their faith, fostering spiritual growth in the community and a closer relationship with God.

Fr. Emmanuel Maddhichetty, Principal of DBTC, emphasized that the initiative benefited not only the students but also the brothers from DBTC, offering them valuable opportunities to develop their pastoral and educational skills as they prepare for future ministry. "The event truly embodied Don Bosco's vision of forming educators who guide young people in faith and life," he said. The program was a powerful expression of Don Bosco’s mission to nurture “good Christians and responsible citizens,” leaving a lasting impression on all participants.
