Sacred Heart College Alumni Association to host Chess Tournament
Chess enthusiasts from all walks of life, across the state, are eagerly awaiting the first Tamil Nadu State Level Open Chess Tournament, organized by the Sacred Heart College Alumni Association, in view of the college's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. Set to take place on September 15, the event promises an intense day of rapid-fire strategy and skill at the historic Sacred Heart College (Autonomous) in Tirupattur.
With a total prize money of ₹1,25,000, the stakes are high. Apart from cash prizes and awards for the open category, the top performers in the Under 09, 11, and 14 Boys & Girls categories stand a chance to win from a pool of 30 prizes (20 for toppers and 10 for progressive players). This showcases the event's strong commitment to nurturing young talent, inspiring the next generation of chess champions. Additionally, ten Progressive Players Prizes are earmarked exclusively for participants from Tirupattur District, along with two Progressive Players Prizes for competitors from each of the ten participating districts.
The grand prize of ₹10,000 is just the beginning. Forty cash prizes and 120 trophies will be distributed across various categories, making the tournament one of the most rewarding events in the Tamil Nadu chess calendar.
The tournament will follow the Swiss-System format, consisting of seven rounds with a rapid time control of 15 minutes plus a 5-second increment per move. Players must think fast and act faster in what promises to be an exhilarating display of chess prowess.
The event is backed by an experienced team with Mr. A. Gopinathen SNA, Vice President of the SHC Alumni Association, serving as the Tournament Director and Deputy Chief Arbiter. Mr. SNA Sivagnanam T M will be the Chief Arbiter ensuring that the competition runs smoothly and fairly. The office bearers of SHC Alumni Association Dr.S.M.Krishnan - President, Dr. C.R. Christi Anandan - Secretary, Mr. P. Nicola Prakash - Treasurer and Executive Committee look after the coordination of the event, providing a strong and reliable support system for the tournament.
