Salesian Province of St. John Bosco, Kolkata, inaugurated the Provincial Chapter 2022, with the theme “the Profile of the Salesian for the Youth of Today,” here at Nitika Don Bosco on October 2, 2022. Most Rev. Thomas D’Souza, the Archbishop of Kolkata, presided over the Holy Eucharist with 72 chapter members.

The Provincial Chapter began with the spiritual animation of the members by Father James Mathew SDB. At the inaugural mass, Archbishop Thomas D’Souza welcomed the Salesians to the Archdiocese of Kolkata and asked the Chapter members to grow in faith and love, based on the gospel reading, Lord Increase our faith. He called on the chapter members to refocus themselves on the young people, to listen and accompany them by becoming holy mentors and guides. Based on Christus Vivit, he presented the role of a Salesian as an educator to the young.

Father Tomy Augustine, the moderator, welcomed everyone and initiated the Provincial Chapter 2022 by reading the Convocation letter of the Vicar of Rector Major. Father Joesph Pauria, Provincial, set the tone for the provincial chapter by reading Article 170 of the Salesian Constitutions.

Fr. Sunil Kerketta, the Vice-Provincial, presented the messages of Father Biju Micheal, Regional Councillor for South Asia and Father Jose Kuruvachira, Provincial of Dimapur Province.

Father Provincial thanked the Archbishop for his words of encouragement to the chapter members. After the roll call, reading the rules and regulations and appointment of various roles, Father Tomy Augustine declared the Provincial Chapter open.
