Thrissur celebrates Don Bosco
The presence of the Relic of St. John Bosco in Thrissur was greatly celebrated by the people and the two Don Bosco institutions. The large crowds at various centres and the well organised prayerful ambience was helpful to the faithful in having a spiritual experience.
The relic of St John Bosco was enthusiastically welcomed by the Archdiocese of Trichur on 28 September. The reception, led by the Don Bosco Institutions at Mannuthy, began at Poonkunnam Junction at 05.30 a.m. The casket had the first stop over at Don Bosco Church, Mariapuram After the Mass and veneration, the casket moved in procession to Don Bosco Schools Don Bosco Schools, Mullakkara (Mannuthy).
Students, parents, teachers, and friends numbering thousands paid respects to Don Bosco at the school auditorium. Simultaneously information on the saint and the casket was made available through periodic audio-visual presentations in more than one hall. It was indeed a festival. Intense moments of prayer along with administration of sacraments made the experience a festival of grace. The attendance of over 12 thousand people in the campus surprised many.
In the afternoon the relic was received at Don Bosco College, Mannuthy.
The Mass was presided over by Rt. Rev. Raphael Thattil, Auxiliary Bishop of Trichur Archdiocese. The relic taken again in procession was at Lourdes Cathedral at 05.30 p.m. The Auxiliary Bishop along with the Vicar General and the cathedral vicar received the relic at the entrance. The Bishop officially welcomed Don Bosco to the Archdiocese and invited the diocese to ensure better care of children and young people. Fr. Varghese Thannippara led the community in prayer and informed the people more about Don Bosco and the casket. Again thousands of people, overflowing the cathedral premises, stood in long queues stretching into the main roads.
By 08.30 p.m. the casket moved to Mary Matha Major Seminary where more than 100 priests of the archdiocese were in spiritual retreat. The night vigil at Don Bosco School Auditorium, Mannuthy began with a very devout candlelit procession. Hundreds of people participated in the vigil, received the sacraments and prayed around Don Bosco. The Salesian community found moments to pray by themselves at the relic. After the concluding Eucharist, the relic visited the Salesian community chapel before bidding goodbye to Mannuthy.
